Warriors host OKC to open title defense

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Golden State Warriors begin their quest to be the first to win three straight NBA championships in nearly two decades when they host the Oklahoma City Thunder in the nightcap of the league's opening day double-header on Tuesday night.

Kevin Durant will go up against his former team for the eighth time since leaving as a free agent in 2016, but likely won't go head-to-head with longtime teammate Russell Westbrook, who is expected to begin the season on the sidelines following arthroscopic knee surgery.

Lakers pick up options on 4 key players

Wizards name Mystics' Toliver assistant

WASHINGTON (AP) WNBA All-Star Kristi Toliver will be an assistant coach for player development for the NBA's Washington Wizards this season.

Toliver's job was one of several changes to coach Scott Brooks' staff announced by the Wizards on Tuesday, two days before they host the Miami Heat to open the season.

Bulls announce patch deal with Zenni

CHICAGO (AP) The Chicago Bulls and Zenni Optical have announced a five-year deal that makes the online eyewear retailer the first company to place a sponsorship patch on the franchise's jersey.

The patch will be on the left breast of the team's jerseys, starting with the opener at Philadelphia on Thursday. Chicago's first home game is against Detroit on Saturday.

Trail Blazers owner Allen dies at 65

SEATTLE (AP) Paul G. Allen, who co-founded Microsoft with his childhood friend Bill Gates before becoming a billionaire philanthropist who invested in conservation, space travel, arts and culture and professional sports, died Monday. He was 65.

He died in Seattle from complications of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, his company Vulcan Inc. announced.

Pacers extend Turner for 4 years, $72M

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The Indiana Pacers have signed 22-year-old Myles Turner to a contract extension.

Team officials made the announcement Monday but declined to provide details of the deal. It is a four-year deal worth $72 million, espn.com reported.

Clips get Pelicans' Ajinca for F Johnson

The Clippers subsequently waived Ajinca on Monday.

Bucks acquire G Meeks from Wizards

MILWAUKEE (AP) The Milwaukee Bucks have acquired suspended guard Jodie Meeks, a future second-round draft pick and cash from the Wizards, sending a future second-round pick back to Washington.

The NBA suspended Meeks in April for 25 games for a violation of the league's drug program. He has 19 games left on the suspension.
